The Costa Rican government complied with the digital nomad law for almost a year, but all this time it was not implemented because the government failed to prepare the regulation so that it could enter into force. It is currently in force since the new Executive Branch commanded by Rodrigo Cháves signed the said regulation to Law 10,008 on July 4, 2022.
The digital nomad law has established several benefits, including tax incentives, to encourage people to stay in Costa Rica for longer periods, granting these people the migratory category of non-resident, worker or remote service provider.
In article 15 of the law, it establishes that the visa will be granted for one year, extendable for a single period of one additional year. And to grant this extension, the beneficiary must have stayed in the country for at least 180 days during the year that was originally authorized.
Some benefits that digital nomads will receive are:
Exemption from income tax.
Visa for one year extendable and with multiple exits.
Duty-free import of any equipment needed to work.
Recognition of the driver's license for one year.
